Scientists Invent a Laser That Can Detect and Destroy Cancer Cells
Scientists have created a technology that can detect and destroy tumor cells under our skin.
This treatment allows doctors to quickly scan a patient's blood without having to draw it from them.
Usually, doctors have to take a patient's blood sample first to look for circulating tumor cells (CTCs), which can spread throughout the body and become lethal metastases.

Yes, scientists have long used CTC as a way to understand the risk of metastasis in patients. If they find CTC, doctors can find out how likely the cancer is to spread and can quickly perform laser therapy that kills these cells.
But unfortunately, this method still has obstacles because the doctor can only draw a small amount of blood that may not contain CTC at all.
To overcome this, scientists then created a system they called the Cytophone. This method uses a laser to look into the skin of patients with melanoma, as well as look for CTCs flowing in their blood vessels.
In doing so, the investigators were able to successfully find problematic CTCs in 27 of the 28 patients who were the study subjects. Even more amazing, tumor cells can be detected in as little as 10 seconds - indicating that the system is 1,000 times more sensitive than existing methods.
According to a study published in the journal Science Translational Medicine, direct laser scans provide results in 10 seconds-60 minutes without failure.
Not only does it detect, this technique can also destroy the CTCs which normally form blood clots as they circulate. It should be noted that these clots are usually the number two cause of death in people with cancer.
Even so, scientists need to carry out further research to find out whether this method can be used in everyone.
